Government involvement in sports?

The U.S. government has taken upon itself to get involved with sports on several different fronts. From steroids in baseball to Lance Armstrong to potentially mandating a 'playoff system' in college football, it seems politicians feel the need to regulate these activities. What do you believe the government's role in sports (professional or college) should be?
