In CO, can I have my friend solemnize my marriage if she gets ordained online?
I live in Arapahoe County and plan to get married next year. In looking up license laws, websites show "Couples themselves may solemnize their own marriage (C.R.S 14-2-109). They must apply for paper work from the County Courthouse in order to do this. However, friends or relatives can not solemnize their marriage. Out-of-state Clergy need not be registered in Colorado." I would like to have my friend be the officiant at our ceremony. I'm unclear if this law means that friends/family can't solemnize our marriage period, or only if they are not ordained. If she gets ordained online can she perform the ceremony or is it still against the law?
